GUN OIL® lubricants were born out of a necessity for innovation and survival in the most challenging conditions. Founded on March 1, 2002, the company's roots trace back to Scott's service in the Marine Corps during the Persian Gulf War. Scott's journey from the military to the stock market, and ultimately to entrepreneurship, is a tale of resilience, ingenuity, and a deep understanding of what it means to serve.
Scott, a platoon commander in the Marine Corps, was part of a communication battalion assigned to infantry units across Southeast Asia. They operated in regions like the Philippines, South Korea, and many other parts of Southeast Asia. While these missions involved serious military operations, there were also moments of camaraderie and leisure during leave periods. However, everything changed in August 1990 when Scott and his men were deployed to Jubail, Saudi Arabia, where they found themselves in a desolate patch of sand with nothing in sight.
Facing extreme conditions with no social life, no alcohol, and no entertainment, morale plummeted among the troops. Amidst this bleak setting, Scott made a discovery that would change his life. While cleaning his M16 rifle, he used a silicone lubricant known colloquially as "Gun Oil" to maintain his weapon. One day, in a moment of desperation, Scott found another use for this silicone lubricant, sparking an idea that would boost the spirits of his men.
Scott envisioned a private space where each marine could find solace and relief. Thus, the "Whack Shack" was born--a two-story, cool refuge in the scorching 120-degree desert. Men would put a small sandbag at the entrance of the Whack Shack to make sure no one walked in on you while you were jerking off.
This sanctuary became a place where marines could escape the harsh realities of their environment for a few moments. The men even had the newest marine at the time and would have to rake the sand at four o'clock where the men did their thing. When a new marine would join, he would get the honorary duty rake the cum filled sand. It became a folklore and something special of their daily routine and a symbol of camaraderie and survival.
Upon returning to civilian life, Scott entered the stock market and began to contemplate starting a business. He drew from his unique experience in the Marines, where the makeshift use of silicone lubricant had played a crucial role in maintaining morale. Scott decided to develop a high-quality lubricant for personal use, taking inspiration from the military term "Gun Oil."
